How to Promote, Host & Generate More Leads With LinkedIn Audio Events

LinkedIn Audio Events are a powerful way to utilize your existing audience on LinkedIn to generate more leads and engage with potential customers on the platform. By hosting an event, you can connect with your target audience in a real-time, interactive format. The real magic however, is in the post event follow up. Learn how to set up a LinkedIn Audio Event and make the most of the event via this extremely helpful and slightly magical guide.

LinkedIn Audio Events?

Clubhouse started the audio room trend a few years ago and now, well there is competition.

  • Twitter has Spaces.

  • Facebook has Live Audio Rooms.

  • LinkedIn has LinkedIn Audio Events.

What Are LinkedIn Audio Events?

LinkedIn Audio Events are a live, interactive event hosted on LinkedIn that allows you to listen to members of LinkedIn discuss a topic in an audio format. The events can last anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 hours and launched in January 2022.

All users of LinkedIn have access to it as long as you have “Creator Mode” turned on. You can listen in either on desktop or on mobile.

**NOTE You must have 150 followers and/or connections to host a LinkedIn Audio Event.

Creating a LinkedIn Audio Event? (Desktop Guide)

Click Start a Post

Click the three dots aka “Add to your post”

Click Create an Event

Create a Cover Image for your LinkedIn Audio Event

An effective event starts with a nicely designed event cover image.
LinkedIn recommends a minimum width of 480 pixels, 16:9 aspect ratio recommended.

Here’s an example of the banner Danielle Aime made for the event I cohosted with her recently.

I won’t bother telling you that it’s pretty important to create a nice looking event banner that also includes the title of your event and some relevant keywords…..

But uh do that.

Now then, we need to select a few more things for your LinkedIn Audio Event.

Select the event format and input your event name

Pretty easy right? You just need to select “LinkedIn Audio Events” as the event format and include an event name + choose the timezone for hosting your event.

Fill out more relevant details to your LinkedIn Audio Event

Choose a start and end time and include a description to your event. Make sure you describe in detail what topics you will be discussing and the agenda for the event.

Now the last part here is to add the speakers to the audio event.

**NOTE you must be a connection with any speaker you want to add.

Now click Next.

Write a LinkedIn post to help promote your event.

One important thing to note is that this post you write will be attached to the audio event for the duration of your promotional period so make sure you put effort into writing a catchy post!

Could I take this opportunity to explain how to write a LinkedIn post and get 1000 likes?

Oh wait this is a blog post and there is no vanity metrics….

Guess I’ll just get to the point huh?

(This is just the part of the blog where I prove to Google I’m not using solely ChatGPT and UberSuggest to write this blog post).

Anywhoodles, if you’d like to see a great example of an awesome promo post check out this one below.

The last thing to do is to simply hit POST and then your LinkedIn audio event post is live. Now that I’ve gotten over how to create an audio event on LinkedIn, let’s dive into how to Promote your LinkedIn Audio Event.

Event Promotion: How to Drive more Attendance to your LinkedIn Audio Event

If you want to host an amazing LinkedIn Audio Event you need to really master the art of promotion. Personally I’d suggest LESS events and making the ones you host really really good with proper promo and a full plan.

I’m going to breakdown a plan of action that any business could use for a quarterly LinkedIn Audio Event.

Your first step is a plan to invite people on LinkedIn to attend the event.

  1. Quickly Mass Invite Connections to LinkedIn Events

To recap the video here’s the steps to the quick way of inviting people to check out your audio event.

  • Click the BLUE Share Button

  • Select INVITE

  • Select from the INDUSTRY category.

  • Pick an industry relevant to the event.

  • Select Locations that make sense to your business and event topic.

  • Scroll down for a while.

  • Click the white box in the top left.

  • Click INVITE

Boom, you’ve mass invited a bunch of somewhat targeted people to your LinkedIn Audio Event.

Personally I also recommend inviting people from your network that you think would enjoy the event. This method takes longer and if enough people are interested I can make a video about this.

NOTE if you are hosting an event with multiple speakers make sure you get all of them to use this method and invite their audience as well as………….

2. Promotional Posts leading up to the Event

That’s right not only do you have to create the event, mass invite a lot of your connections BUT you also need to do promo posts. Ideally 3 or 4 leading up to your event and thats for all the speakers as well.

(Insert shocked face)

What?

You thought this would be easy?

“A great LinkedIn Audio Event takes a lot of effort; because the truth is people are busy and easily distracted. You have to HAMMER home this event to your audience. ”

— Somebody’s Mom

Just when you think you are being spommy and annoying, invite another 500 people and do another 2 promotional posts.

Most of you don’t post nearly enough promo for your events.

Here’s some examples of the promotional posts leading up to the last event I was a part of. Cheers to Danielle Aime for carrying the weight while I’ve been taking a break from Linkedin.

I reshared every post and we both reposted each promo post multiple times!!

Preview from inside an audio event on LinkedIn…

To recap the video here’s what you can expect from hosting a LinkedIn Audio Event!

  • It’s really basic feature wise.

  • You can easily select your audio input and outputs.

  • You can mute and unmute yourself.

  • You can use 4 emoji’s as reactions to things people say.

  • If someone raises their hand, you can bring them up.

  • You can join the event up to 15 minutes prior.

  • The event starts automatically or you can start it yourself.

  • You can share the event while inside of it to other platforms and mediums.

That’s it! It’s pretty darn basic, be sure to watch the video above to see just how easy and not intimidating hosting a LinkedIn Audio Event is.

NOTE I just hosted a quick 60 second event in real time and nobody joined so I couldn’t fully demo it for you. Hope the video helped a bit tho haha.

How to Follow Up and Generate Leads after the Event is Over

This is the part everyone came for… Okay so you know how to setup, promote and host a LinkedIn Audio Event but now the moment of truth comes…

.You had a good time, people showed up, connections were made, thoughts were shared and when the dust all settled.

You didn’t get any DMs about your services.

THE HORROR!!!

Guess the event was a failure huh?

Not so fast, the real work hasn’t even begun yet and I know you hated reading that but it’s just the truth. To be quite blunt with you the actual event is the least important part.

1. Promo and Driving signups to the event.
2. Follow Up after the EVENT!!
3. The actual event.

Thats’ just my opinion of course take it or leave it but I’m going to dive into some ways to follow up with attendees after the event.

Things to consider before Following Up with Attendees

841 people attended the event last night.
841 people said they were interested in the “Darkside of Entrepreneurship”.
841 people who are open to a connection of some kind.

Your job or well Danielle’s job in this case, is to connect with as many of these people as possible in unique ways. KEEP IN MIND, I didn’t say all of these people. You want to make an effort to connect with anyone you think would be a meaningful addition to your network.

Remember also, Leads and a better network is built by hard work and real connection. You can’t shortcut this, it will take work.

Just simply hosting an event and not following up is wasting a ton of potential opportunities for you to either build your audience or potentially get some leads.

Lets get started.

  • Method 1: Connection Request + Note

  • Method 2: Connection Request + Comment on their Last Post

  • Method 3: Connection Request + Loom Hello via link (Need Sales Nav)

  • Method 4: Connection Request with Note + Link to a Recording of your Event (Need Sales Nav)

Bonus Tip: When someone agrees to your connection request and says hello send them an audio hello. Remember you are trying to establish solid connections here.

  • Method 5: With Existing Connections send them an audio note + comment on last post

Are online Events worth it?

Perhaps after reading this guide you are asking yourself, man, is a LinkedIn Audio Event or any event for that matter even worth it?

I’ll leave that determination up to you but I will say this….
If you aren’t willing to put in a proper effort, you are wasting your time with a hangout session and well if you are okay with that, then that’s totally fine.

Just don’t be sad if the event doesn’t produce what you are hoping for.
